Paint Removal
This is for all of those individuals who have purchased a slot car or two that has been painted. You know that there is a good car underneath all of that paint but how do you get to it. Well, I have tried a lot of things but I have come up with a method that has worked well for me.
I first tried Poly S Easy-Lift-Off. It seemed to work well but it was kind of messy and it sometimes fogged the plastic. It didn't work well with some kinds of paint either.
I tried Easy Off oven cleaner. Don't use this unless you plan on repainting the car. It fogs the plastic very badly.
I've also tried all other sorts of methods that melt the plastic but I would rather not share those with you.
Finally, I now use Simple Green in an ultrasonic cleaner. I leave it in until the paint is all gone. It doesn't seem to fog the plastic and it works on most plastics and paints. The only problem I have had is that if you leave it in for too long the fluid gets hot enough (from the vibration of the cleaner) to actually distort the body.
I've also used this method on plastic models, Johnny Lightning cars, and about everything else that would fit into my cleaner, including my airbrush. It works great for me.
Good luck finding those prized pieces underneath that blob of paint.
