T-jet Tweaks
by Fred James

I have really enjoyed your How-to articles, and thought I would tell you some that we used to do as kids, and that I will try again soon.

1) Trim out vent areas on sides of chassis for improved cooling of armature, and dropping a little weight.

2) Trim approx. .005" off both inward sides of magnet pocket areas of chassis. This moves magnets a little closer to armature, and reduces turbulence.

3)Remove a few wraps from each armature pole. Keep all 3 equal! This adds a little top end speed, although it costs some low end torque. I used to do this on the old Tri-colored arms, and may try again on some of the newer style arms, and see what happens.

4) A 35 volt capacitor of  10,000 microfarads does wonders to for cleaning up the AC to DC conversion on 18 volt transformers. Hook + to +, and - to - on your transformer, and see the difference!Warning, don't use a capacitor of  less than twice your transformers output, and don't hook up in reverse polarity, or the capacitor can blow up!

These are some tricks I remember, and hope they can be used by others. T-Jets are my favorite, and I have many fond memories tweaking and racing them, and am getting my son into them now.
